Making money online is something that anyone with an internet connection can do.
In my own experience, I’ve found that the biggest hindrance to earning money online is not some limited availability of jobs or lack of skill on my part, but not focused and sticking to a routine.
In this article, I’ll show you how to maximize your online earnings with a routine and detail several elements I’ve found to be helpful in my own routine for boosting productivity.
Defining The Problem
If you’re anything like me when I first started trying to earn money online, you probably don’t have a clear cut schedule or task list of what you want to accomplish each day.
There’s a general idea of today I want to make money online but beyond that, the specifics are generally worked out as you go.
Although you can still earn money online through this haphazard approach, you’re missing out on a potentially significant amount of income without clearly defining:
- How much do I want to earn money online today?
- How much time do I want to invest in earning this money today?
- How am I going to earn money today?
Enter The Routine
By establishing a simple and effective routine, you’ll be able to answer each of those three questions which will increase the chances of you actually completing each goal.
Routines can be difficult to implement at first because it’s hard to create lasting changes to your day to day activities.
The key to successfully implanting a routine that’s effective and lasting is to clearly define it and to have a clear understanding of the the pros and cons of adhering to it.
Here’s a very simple example, if your goal is to earn $75 today by blocking off 4 hours filling out paid surveys, the pro of sticking to your routine is earning money within the timeframe you’ve budgeted out.
The con of not sticking with your routine is missing out on earning the $75 and potentially wasting those 4 hours by being unproductive.
Helpful Routine Elements
Hopefully you’re beginning to see the value of establishing a routine for the time you spend working online.
Each person’s routine will differ based off their own unique situational needs.
I’ve listed the routine elements I’ve found to be the most helpful to me below.
Take Breaks Frequently
At first this might seem counterproductive.

But more and more research confirms that not only can frequently taking short breaks boost productive and keep your mind fresh, but also is much healthier than staying seated all day.
Wake Up Early
You’re probably familiar with the old proverb by Benjamin Franklin, “Early to bed and early to rise, makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise.”
I believe this is a universal truth and an excellent way to become more productive, more effective, and cut down on timewasters.
Waking up early gives you a head start on the day.
By rising earlier, you’re giving yourself more time that can be spent earning money online, spending time with friends and family, or whatever else you value.
I’m not a morning person and it took me months to nail down the routine of rising at 5:30am (instead of the normal 7am or sometimes even 8am…). If I can do it, you can too.
Set an alarm across the room so you have to get up to turn it off. After you turn it off, immediately exit your bedroom and take a shower, spend 15 minutes stretching, or whatever you want to help wake you up.

Take Care Of Yourself With Exercising & Eating Well
One of the benefits of working from home and earning money online is the flexibility it affords you.
An often neglected aspect of a daily routine is diet and exercise.
Both of these subjects are massive and although I’m only giving them a short mention, your health is important to your overall productivity.
It’s important to take time during your frequent breaks (or when you rise in the morning) to perform low level cardio activity such as walking as well as strength training (like weights).
Don’t neglect your nutrition either.
It can be tempting to overeat since your kitchen is only a few feet away but you can avoid that path by making a conscious effort to improve your diet.

Make A Realistic List & Complete It
When I first became interested in boosting my productivity, I was obsessed with lists.
But I soon found that I was overcomplicating things by creating complex lists and always looking for better ways to track my activities.
I strongly encourage you to create a list at the beginning of each day.
A list is only effective if you actually use it. An effective list should contain a clearly defined goal of what you want to accomplish and always how much time you’re willing to spend on completing that task.
You can use the old standby of pen and paper or an online version (I suggest Todoist).
By having a clearly defined and effective routine, you will increase your online earnings and become more productive.
You’ll not only eliminate unproductive activities that limit your online earnings, but you’ll also become more disciplined and will likely begin to incorporate a routine into your personal life as well.
